Nicolás Ortega is a Graphic Designer, Illustrator and Art Director from Colombia based in New York. He previously worked as a designer for Milton Glaser, Sagmeister Inc. and Penguin Random House.
His illustration work has been published in different publications in the U.S. and Europe like The New York Times, The Guardian and The New Yorker. His Design work has been awarded by The Type Directors Club 2016, The Art Directors Club 2018/2020/2021, The Society for News Design in 2018/2019/2020/2021, American Illustration 35/36/37/38/39/40/41, The Society of Publication Designers 2018/2021/2022, Communication Arts, The One Show, Selected as best Illustrations of the year by The New York Times in 2016, 2017, 2019, 2021, best Illustrations of the year for the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2018/2019/2020 and awarded by the Society of Illustrators in 2019, 2020, and 2021. He has been named NBC’s Top 20 Latino Artist to Watch in 2021 and to serve as Jury of the Art Directors Club 101st Annual Awards.
Prior to New York, he worked at FABRICA, Benetton Communication Research Centre in Italy. He Also worked almost a decade in his native Colombia as an Art Director in the most prominent Advertising agencies: Saatchi & Saatchi, Segarra Cuesta Puig Fernandez de Castro (in Barcelona), Dane Doyle Bernbach and James Walter Thompson.
